Soccer

Soccer, also known as football in most countries outside of North America, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score by getting a ball into the opposing team’s goal, primarily using any part of the body except the arms and hands (goalkeepers are allowed to use their hands within the penalty area). Soccer is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with a goal at each end. The game is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) at the international level, and it is one of the most popular sports worldwide, celebrated for its simplicity and universal appeal. Matches are typically divided into two halves, and the team with the most goals at the end of the match wins. If the score is tied, depending on the competition rules, the game may end in a draw or go into overtime or a penalty shootout. Soccer emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and skill, making it both a competitive and recreational activity enjoyed by millions around the globe.
